HIKING TRAILS

It is located above the “Coll d’Espina” pass, settled on a hill that divides the Isábena and Baliera riverbeds. Opposite the access to Neril and next to the N-260 road.
It is a notable element in Laspaúles, marking the old boundary of the dioceses of Lleida, Barbastro, and La Seu d'Urgell.

Tradition says that the bishops used to meet at this point to resolve matters within their jurisdictions. The stone, with three inscribed crosses, represents the ancient bishoprics. Although the dioceses have changed, the area now belongs to Barbastro - Monzón.

Moreover, Coll de Espina offers outstanding panoramic views of the Sierra de Chía, Posets, Maladetas, and the Eastern Pyrenees. A viewpoint with special design and information has been built on the national road.

The description details a monolithic block with three incised crosses, initially horizontal, and a small pillar dedicated to Saint Sebastian. The history suggests a possible date of 1571 related to the establishment of the Barbastro diocese by Philip II.

The panoramic hike in Laspaúles, Alto Isábena Valley, starts near the campsite and leads to highlights such as the Suils viewpoint and the Tozal de Puntons.

The “tozal,” meaning an elevated place, stands out on the hike, offering impressive panoramic views. As you ascend, the views of the valley and the Turbón massif are spectacular. The descent towards Neril gives the opportunity to visit its small church and enjoy a viewpoint.

The route continues to the Raya Refuge, offering impressive views of the Alto Isábena mountain cirque. The descent follows the same path back to the Collado de la Raya, then towards Neril.

The route provides magnificent views of the Baliera valley. In Neril, it is recommended to visit the church and the viewpoint before returning to Laspaúles via the GR 18.1 trail, crossing a ravine and reaching the road.

The route is about 16 kilometers with 500 meters of accumulated elevation gain, with no major technical difficulties and fully marked.

Adventurers, get ready for an exciting route in Laspaúles that will challenge your exploring spirit! Starting from Camping Laspaúles and heading towards Castejón de Sos, this approximately 4-hour trek takes you through rough paths and narrow trails.

The route includes steep climbs and technical descents, offering stunning views of the natural surroundings. There is an option to detour to Font Salada, though it is warned to be difficult.

The path, known for its toughness and lack of maintenance, crosses fields, streams, and villages such as Espés Alto and Villaplana. Experience is highly recommended, and it is not advised for families with small children.

The most daring will find a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in nature, but it is recommended to carry water, food, and a map to face the uncertainty of the terrain. Get ready for an unforgettable experience and dive into the wild beauty of Laspaúles!

FONT SALADA

The route starts in Laspaúles and heads towards Coll d'Espino, accessible by car if needed. From the Coll d'Espino viewpoint, the path leads to visits to the hermitage of Santa Llusia and the hermitage of San Salvador de Bonansa, both featuring impressive viewpoints.

The Romanesque hermitages route is comfortable and easy, offering spectacular views.
The hermitage of Santa Llusia is notable for a spring with therapeutic properties for the evil eye.

The connection between the winter solstice, Saint Lucy’s Day, and the enchantresses is mentioned, adding a magical touch to the site.

The importance of solstices and light is related to tradition and the Julian calendar.
In summary, the route offers a cultural, historical, and natural experience, highlighting the connection between magical elements and the celebration of Saint Lucy in a charming environment.

Santa Llusia y San Salvador de Bonansa

The Rock of the Nine Holes, located near the hermitage of Santa Llusía in Laspaúles, features nine natural holes. According to a legend collected by José Miguel Navarro López, the encantarias or washerwomen, mythical female beings, washed clothes in these holes on Saint John's night, bringing fortune to those who saw them.

The rock is linked to the hermitage of Santa Llusía and the winter solstice, connecting with the tradition and symbolism of the rebirth of light. Other legends from the area, such as the one from Castanesa, tell of a serpent with a woman’s head and a key symbolizing the connection between supernatural figures and the human world.

In Castanesa, there is a story of a cave inhabited by encantarias, women expelled from the village who made towels and sheets. A man who stole their towels was cursed and disappeared during a storm. The cave and the spring of the encantarias in Castanesa have a mysterious and magical context.
The Rock of the Nine Holes is accessed by a well-marked trail from the top of the Puerto de Bonansa. This collection of legends and oral traditions highlights the rich cultural and magical heritage of the Laspaúles region.

Camino a Chuarré // RUNNING

As a curious fact: Casas de Arcas, situated at 1640 meters between the Fadas and Espina passes, challenge the altitude of Cerler and Villarrué in the contest for the highest village in the Aragonese Pyrenees. Although formally part of Villarrué, these houses, with their private chapel, challenge Cerler’s altitude, traditionally considered the highest village. Although the owners mainly reside in Monzón, they spend long seasons in Arcas. The controversy lies in whether Arcas should be classified as a hamlet or a group of houses belonging to Villarrué, but its indisputable altitude places it as the highest inhabited enclave in Altoaragón, excluding mountain refuges or urbanized ski resort areas.

Another popular route people like to do is this: CIRCULAR ROUTE connecting Laspaúles - Ermita San Roque - Villarrué - Casas de Arcas - Casas de Rins - San Valero and the Ermita de Santa Paula. It’s 14 km long with 500 meters of total positive elevation gain.

A very easy walk, with lots of ups and downs, that takes us to the church of Nuestra Señora de Turbiné, or Santa Paula, a 12th-century church classified as a Cultural Interest Site. If we continue a little further uphill, there is a beautiful stone nativity scene that, together with a viewpoint, offers us stunning views of the surrounding valleys.

Isábena River, medieval bridge, sculpture garden and Suils viewpoint

From the campsite, you can access the Isábena River directly. You'll see the bridge, the first one built over the Isábena River — you're sure to spend some time taking photos, as it's a dreamlike spot. It's also likely you'll see cows and calves grazing in a nearby field, creating a truly bucolic scene.

Just a few meters after crossing the bridge, on the left, you'll find the open-air iron sculpture garden by parish priest and sculptor Domingo Subías — a place we recommend visiting with the calm it deserves.

You’ll continue on the path toward Suils, one of the twelve hamlets of Laspaúles. Follow the signs through the village and after a short climb, you’ll reach the Suils Viewpoint. From there, you can see the villages of Suils and Laspaúles, with the Turbón mountain in the background.

It’s a half-morning route, lasting about an hour and a half.

On the way back, you can stop to see the exterior of the Laspaúles Flour Mill. If you'd like to visit the interior, you’ll need to get a ticket at the Laspaúles Witches Interpretation Center.

Mirador de Suils

This route offers the chance to enjoy the Isábena River Valley from two very different perspectives. On one side of the river lies a wilder path that will awaken your "most animal" side. Faint trails sheltered by leafy trees will immerse you in pure, unspoiled nature.

In contrast, on the other side of the river, returning toward Laspaúles, the rocky trail becomes a wonderful greyish track in excellent condition, offering a peaceful and pleasant return with stunning views over the Isábena Valley.

A perfect loop for trail running or for a gentle walk along an easy route with little elevation gain.

NOTE! At the end of the track, nearing Villarrué, the slope becomes progressively steeper — we recommend saving a bit of energy for this final stretch.

El Pllano

Perfect drive to enjoy with the family on a clear afternoon. From the campsite, it's a 12-minute drive along the Alins road to reach the track (check the map), and then 5 more minutes along the track to reach the meadow. Ideal for experiencing the breathtaking natural and astronomical setting of the Aragonese Pyrenees. You’ll witness the sunset and thousands of stars like never before.

NOTE! Even in summer, it gets freezing cold. We highly recommend bringing blankets or duvets, as well as a hot dinner. With a bit of luck, you might even spot a shooting star.

ATARDECER Y ESTRELLAS

El Turbón rises to 2,492 metres, standing alone among the higher peaks that surround it.

The ascent from Laspaúles is made via San Feliu de Veri, the Coll de Fades pass, and the Fuente de la Muria, until reaching Selvaplana.

It stretches north to south, overlooking the Isábena river basin to the east and the Ésera valley to the west.

During the climb, you can admire other mountain ranges: Aneto (3,404 m), Gallinero (2,728 m), and Peña Montañesa, and a bit further north, Cotiella, with its 2,912 m. Edelweiss flowers and chamois may also appear along the way.

Since ancient times—no one knows exactly when—extraordinary stories have been told about El Turbón: its mythical origins, curious shape, weather omens, and supernatural inhabitants... All of which enchant and captivate with their unique magic.
