This is a valley situated between towering mountains. The Garonne River, with its source in the Aranese mountains and which flows right out into the Atlantic Ocean, is the main feature of the area.
This territory stretches over the northern slopes of the Pyrenees, determining its climate, scenery and unique culture. It opens up slightly towards France to the north, while to the south-west it borders on Aragon and the rest lies adjacent to Catalonia.
With an extremely alpine topography, its mountains are around 3,000 metres high. As it is a place with abundant rainfall, the rich vegetation seems to have been washed in an intense green colour.
Its capital, Vielha, and the prestigious ski resort of Baqueira Beret, with multiple services which give life to the valley, deserve special mention.
A stroll through the many charming little villages has to be included too.
Especially suitable for families, a visit to the Aran Park wildlife centre, which has gathered together the fauna of the Pyrenees, is a must.
